Here are a few questions and answers to assist you and your spouse with regard to the wedding invitations.

What should be written on the envelopes of the wedding invitations?

In principle, the external envelope of the wedding invitation should be formal and include the full names and full addresses of both the addressees and the senders.

When should the invitations be sent out?

Normally, wedding invitations are sent out about six to seven weeks prior to the wedding date. It is important to allow the invited guests sufficient time to save the date in their diaries and enable them to complete the preparations required so that they may actually attend – especially if the live far away.
Some couples also send Save-the-Date cards. These cards should be sent out about six to eight months prior to the event. A notification of the wedding date (which includes such a phrase as “a formal invitation will follow soon”) guarantees you and spouse that your invitees actually manage to save the wedding date and avoid making any other plans for that date.

What should be the deadline for the return of the RSVP confirmations?

As far as RSVP confirmations are concerned, it is important to take into account the date by which you would like the cards returned to you. Accordingly, the deadline for the return of the RSVP confirmations should be set two to three weeks prior to the wedding date. This will guarantee a sufficient time interval for you to receive the required information about the expected number of guests and pass this information to the caterer (one week prior to the actual event). Additionally, you will be able to complete the seating arrangement chart and prepare the seating cards. If certain guests fail to respond to the RSVP request by the date you had set, call them and ask that they respond by returning the RSVP confirmations as soon as possible.

When should you post the information about your event on your wedding website?

Today, many couples set up a wedding website. If you are interested, a brief web surfing session will get you to websites that would help you set up a charming wedding website, adorned with your photographs and favorite music.
In the formal invitation, you can include the address of your wedding website, and note that additional information regarding the wedding may be found there (e.g. a map of the venue, photographs of the function hall, etc.). It is important that the wedding website include an interactive Save-the-Date feature for the invitees. Include the address of your wedding website in your Save-the-Date cards, too. Chances are that anyone who had received the invitation that includes the website address is already familiar with your website. Therefore, when it is time to send your RSVP cards, you can provide your invitees with a link to the RSVP page on your wedding website.

In addition to the formal invitations, which are always printed on high-quality paper, you can prepare – for your computer-friendly guests – a different kind of invitation, in the form of a short video clip that tells the story of how you had met. Such a clip is an additional, charming way to invite your guests, describe the details of the wedding and include a warm personal message, announcing that you hope that the viewers attend your celebration. The clip will be edited according to your personalities and preferences, and can be mischievous, sweet or serious – whatever suits you.

If your invitee is single, is he/she expected to attend the wedding with a companion?

If your male or female guest does not have a companion, it will be perfectly all right if you expect him/her to attend on his or her own. Almost any guest will understand that if his or her name only appears on the invitation, it means that the invitation is for him or her alone. Admittedly, it is always nice to invite a guest along with a companion, but if your wedding is intended for a small number of guests, your friends and family will surely understand this.

What should you do if you invited a single guest and received an RSVP confirmation for two?

One option is to call the guest and explain that the event will be an intimate affair and that regrettably, you are unable to invite every single guest to attend with a companion. However, if the majority of your invitees are couples, you may want to expand the invitation to include a guest plus a companion, for those few single guests you invited.
